Beschreibung

The Sassoalloro, from the Jacopo Biondi Santi Winery, is the flagship of the family, which with courage and innovation has revisited the colossal Brunello di Montalcino, the creation of its ancestor Ferruccio, to make it a modernproduct, more in line with market demands. Thus began the adventure of the latest generation of the Biondi Santi family with the purchase of the Castello di Montepò, in the renowned Tuscan plain south of Grosseto, a mighty and elegant structure that inspired the writer and playwright Graham Greene thanks to the paradisiacal view of the Maremma, whose territoryis ideally suited to the production of top-quality wines. Jacopo began his project in 1991, born of a great vocation for the subtle and meticulous art of winemaking, with Sassoalloro, produced from the same grapes as Brunello.

The Jacopo Biondi Santi Sassoallorois produced in a loose-textured galestrosoil, also known as albereseand considered the most prized soil for producing Sangiovese, richest in polyphenols and with the greatest longevity. This clayey and calcareoussoil is among the most suitable for producing Sangiovese with excellent characteristics. The name Sassoalloro derives from an erratic boulder, also known as the witches‘ boulder, of volcanic origins about which numerous legends have been created over the centuries. Sassoalloro is produced from 100%Sangiovese BBS11grapes (Brunello Biondi Santi), a clonecarefully selected by Franco Biondi Santi from the ancient blend of the original original Brunellorecipe from the mid-19th century. It is produced with refinementfor 14 months in barriquesmade from untoasted wood from the Tronçaisforests which, with their very fine grain, provide a strong aromatic release and a low tannin content.
